Mary Washington’ asparagus is one of the older and most common asparagus varieties, producing a high yield of tender spears once established.
Water: Water regularly, but do not overwater
Hardiness: Not frost tender, but disappears in Winter
Habit: 36 to 48" tall and 2' wide
Light: Full Sun to Partial Shade
Soil: Asparagus grows best in rich loamy garden soil with good drainage. When planting, incorporate 4" of organic humus into the native soil. Asparagus can grow in the same bed for decades without cultivating the soil annually.
Origin: Siberia to Southern Africa
