Danshen Sage

Salvia miltiorrhiza

Combined with other Chinese herbal medicines, Salvia miltiorrhiza has been used in treatment for various cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Sometimes called “red root” because of the bright red of its roots, this important sage has multi-branched spikes of flowers with lavender-blue corollas and dark purple calyces. A great ornamental as well as a valuable medicinal!
