Datil’ Hot Pepper

Capsicum chinense

This pepper has small orange pods that are very spicy and similar in heat index to its cousin the habanero. Tropical peppers do well planted next to the house, in a greenhouse, or in a pot that is protected during the Winter ( ideal to maintain soil temps above 65℉).

Hardiness: Frost Tender

Habit: 18" tall by 12" wide. In our area, peppers can be made to perennialize when protected from frost in the Winter.

Light: Full Sun

Soil: Fertile, well- draining soil

Origin: Uniquely famous in St. Augustine Florida. Thought to have been brought there during the time of the Spanish slave trade in the Carribean.
