Tea Tree

Melaleuca alternifolia

Tea tree is an attractive, exotic-looking small evergreen tree with fine needle-like leaves and fragrant foliage that makes a fine centerpiece in the medicinal herb garden. Its leaves and twigs are the source of tea tree oil, much valued in herbal medicine as a natural antiseptic and can be used for treating stings, burns, wounds, and skin infections. It is said to stimulate the immune system and serves as an effective treatment against both bacterial and fungal infections. The essential oil is also used in aromatherapy.
