Yerba Mate

Ilex paraguariensis

A great herbal alternative to coffee, yerba mate tea gives a smooth energy boost with less caffeine and more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Yerba mate was first cultivated and used by the indigenous Guaraní people and in some Tupí communities in Southern Brazil. It is traditionally consumed in Central and Southern regions of South America as a stimulant, digestive aid, and nerve tonic for depression and allergies, but can now can be found in various energy drinks as well as being sold as a bottled or canned iced tea. We are lucky to be able to grow this incredible plant in the Bay Area!
