Lemon Balm

Melissa officinalis

Lemon balm is one of the most valued “volunteers” in the OAEC Mother Garden as it self-sows enthusiastically and provides a fresh, lemony garden nibble. It is a favored fresh herb chopped into fruit salads or any dish that is enhanced by a lemony accent, and can be brewed into a refreshing and calming hot or cold tea. It has a long history of medicinal use, most commonly as an aid in alleviating anxiety, stress, insomnia and indigestion.
