Solanum quitoense

A very unique food crop from the Andes with fuzzy round orange fruit of an absolutely delicious sweet-and-sour citrus flavour, perfect for making a delicious juice! Fruits best in the ground or large containers, where summers are cool, but not too foggy. Also grown for its magnificent sensuous, tropical looking thorny-leaved foliage – this is a fabulous specimen plant!

Water: Moderate

Hardiness: Frost tender, doesn’t like temperatures below 32°F so protection during the winter is important.

Habit: Tropical perennial to 5' tall

Light: Best in Partial Shade. Delicate plants must be protected from strong winds and direct sunlight.

Soil: Rich, well-draining soil

Origin: Highlands of Peru and Ecuador
