Red Colombian Manzano’ Hot Pepper
Manzano peppers have 3″ round red pods that are juicy and thick-walled with black seeds. This variety is similar to the red Peruvian one except that the fruit is larger and meatier and thicker walled. Moderately spicy, slightly hotter than a jalapeño, with delicious, fruity tropical top notes. Great for fresh salsas. Tropical peppers do well planted next to the house, in a greenhouse, or in a pot that is protected during the winter.
Hardiness: Frost Tender
Habit: In our area, peppers can be made to perennialize when protected from frost in the winter. Manzanos can get leggy to 6' tall by 3' wide, larger in a greenhouse, smaller if kept in a pot or cut back.
Light: Full Sun
Soil: Fertile, well- draining soil
Origin: Tropical, mountainous regions of Colombia
